Ludwig Daniellis van Göff is an underweight, though healthy, anthropomorphic Sable (martes zibellina) of the mustelidae family. He's closely akin to the Pine Marten. Beyond that the stoat/ermine, mink and ferret. Save for the fur, and other details of that nature; he's based off me in age, size, weight and personality. He's two-toned brown with cream fur from his neck down the center to his tail. He has green eyes and straight and wavy black hair. His body is slim, though soft and warm by his thick fur. He's 5'11" in height, and currently weighs 131 lbs. He has six soft pink pawpads on his five-fingered handpaws, and six larger pawpads of the same color on his five-toed footpaws.
He dresses semi formal or business casual; having a variety of different buttoned shirts, turtlenecks, jackets and slacks. Also wears a blue ribbon about his neck at all times; attached to it his two-sided cross decoration. Often wears a 'gallery' type monocle in his right eye.
The drawing of Ludwig to the upper left was drawn by my friend ©Kwik Cheetah; for a furry I.D. by The Department of Furry Safety. His muzzle may be a bit off, but it's a very well done image of him. I love the coloring and his eyes; including the way the monocle looks. All I've edited in this pic is the hair and monocle cord.
Ludwig's Beginning and Developments

The drawing to the right was done in my classic art style that I hardly use nowadays. It also is in fact the first drawing ever of the sable; and is the only drawing of my character on this page drawn by me. For it being my first drawing of a fur ever, it came out rather well.
Back when I first became a fur on October 16, 2001, I needed a character before I could join a certain list I wanted to become a member of. My friend Abel DuSable (who is also a Sable) had showed me the fandom and wanted me to get deeper into it. I decided to become a Sable like him since it's a unique animal and there are not many of them around.
One day I randomly drew the picture on the right for Abel. He liked it a lot, but his character didn't wear a long coat. I had only gotten the idea from a detective fan fiction story he was in. The coat I drew him wearing was more of a WW2 German militant's, and the facial outlook really didn't look like character that much at all. His body and sly look also gave him more of a Weasel appearance than his sable. So later on the next day, I decided to make the character I drew mine. That's how the second Sable in the fandom was born.
Soon I would find out that there was a lot of developing to be done before my character seemed like me. For one, he needed something that I'd normally wear; which is why I chose the long double-breasted wool coat idea; as well as slacks for pants and a long-sleeved dress shirt. His neck ribbon wear didn't come till two years later, when I started getting into prewar German orders. Since I've always liked monocles, he had to have one of those too. Ludwig wearing a monocle was not meant to be steryotipical. I honestly at the time thought the monocle was a British thing. Regardless, I kept the idea. Once finished with my editing, I gave the original drawing I did the title of Ludwig's Father "Wulfdietrich".
I at first chose the name "Ludwig von Göff" for my character; giving him my real last name. Ludwig to me is just a great first name and it suits him well. I decided later on the whole name sounded too steryotipical German, and changed it to "Ludwig van Göff". I thought that was a unique change, but I forgot about Ludwig van Beethoven and Vincent van Gogh. So once in a while some would think I chose my character's name by combining their's. In the end, I chose "Ludwig Daniellis van Göff", using both my middle and last names.
Drawing Styles

I've had several different drawing styles of my character over the years and I haven't really saw one I didn't like. This drawing done by ©Kwik Cheetah, and editied a little by me is the absolute best. I like the facial expression cause that is indeed how I often look. Kwik puts great facial expression detail into her work. Also, I just love his big padded footpaws. Looks like they make a comfy cushion for him to sit on.
His body and size suits me right as well. It's also a rare casual drawing of Ludwig. He's even wearing a collar around his neck rather than is usual neck ribbon. Feel free to click on the image for a larger picture.

This was an Anime art style of me sketched by ©Aisha. He came out a lot better in Anime style than I thought he would have. From his hair down to his feet, I love it. The clothes are not something I have at all, but wow I think I'd look good in that. The cane is rather interesting. I don't walk with a cane, but it does add to the style.
His mustache is very neat and I have no idea why I never thought about giving my character a mustache since I have one myself. He looks cute with one. I also like the whiskers, not many furs are drawn with them. Aisha also drew his feet more realistic.
The size of his monocle has changed somewhat on this drawing. In the past I thought about giving him a full sized or half sized monocle. I came with the conclusion that a half sized monocle would be more like a bifocal in his vision, so fulled sized seemed more fitting. It's not important, but his monocle fits the socket around his eye, and should be the same size as his eye. Out of all the pictures on this page, Kwik Cheetah did the best job of this. Ludwig wears a gallery monocle, meaning that there's an outer ring on top and under the monocle. This extends the monocle outward from the eye and provides better vision, ventilation and makes it all the more comfortable for wear. Example. Kwik also puts light reflection lines on the monocle so it gives a lens appearance.
He also has a Sable-like face with the markings over and around the eyes. It's not what my character has but it looks really cute. Especially the eyes themselves. All and all, a very nice Anime art style of how he looks.

This was the prime look of Ludwig Göff after the Wulfdietrich model. Drawn by ©Thorne Mouse, it has been the most well known used image of the Sable. He's in full two-tone color and appears well devolved. The coat he's wearing is just like mine indeed, though mine happens to be black. His eyes, a very nice forest green goes with his look. The monocle is 24k gold with a blue draw string attached to it. Another thing people forget when drawing my character, is that he has a monocle with a draw string on the right eye. Some have made the mistake of placing it over the left eye. It's no big deal, just something some forget.
His hair in this drawing is interesting. It goes very well on him in this drawing, but with other drawings of him I couldn't see it looking correctly. His hair goes up just even with his ears and is the same color as the fur on his head. He doesn't have any whiskers in this drawing, nor does he have any claws on his toes. His muzzle is a little bit more inward, along with the fangs sticking out from underneath. Some people also forget his fangs; in fact, I added them after Thorne sent me this drawing.

This one I drew and was intended to be very different from other drawings of him. Here he looks more like a sable. In other words, if he looks more like a ferret, weasel or pine marten than anything else; than I did well. I also for once gave him a hat; since I wanted to see how he looks wearing one. I never could decide if he should wear a hat or not. I also couldn't decide on the type of hat; top hat, boater, fedora or bowler. All in all, I like the way his tail, neck and face came out more than anything.
The Role of Ludwig

In furry/toon fictitious literature, Ludwig often plays the foreign-like villain, professor, leader or enforcer; ranging from being the most superior, to the most dense character. Ludwig is one of those rare types that can fit almost any role. From his monocle and long coat that give him a rich, dictator, English, or villain appearance, to his characteristics that fit almost anything cute or passionate related. Ludwig's style at heart can most definitely be described as Victorian.
Ludwig got his first fiction role in late 2001, staring in the written story 'The Untouchsables' as himself. Playing the villain as one of Al La Rosa's foreign henchman during the WWII era; he proved himself worthy of acting among drama. He had to play the tuff guy, which he was better at than he thought. Although the story was never completed, other opportunities came along as the new year progressed.
In 2002, Ludwig co-stared as himself in a science fiction story titled 'The Lost' by Kyle Viehmann involving space travel on the Starship Archimedes in the year 3054. This story featured many death defying dangers. Within the beginning of the story, Ludwig was awaken and suffering from a fatal blood clot to the brain and memory loss. He was cryogenically frozen years ago; so that future generations could heal him of these wounds. The story goes on to venturing other planets and fighting off a large number of evil forces.
In a few unwritten roles, Ludwig also played a 1950s high school showoff, and a notorious king of a Sable village. Not much else has been in the works of casting in stories for him; but there's always a chance they will be others.
